General Flower Care for Bouquets and Cut Flowers
1. Cut 2 cm off the stems and remove leaves that fall below the water line.
2. Fill vase with water and add 1/2 packet of flower food provided.
3. Re-cut stems, remove wilting flowers, change water and add the other half packet of flower food on day 3.
4. For the longest life, keep your flowers away from direct sunlight, heat and drafts.
5. Flower foods in water should be avoided for flowers such as Gerbera, Iris, Hyacinth, Tulip, Geraldton Wax and Narcissus such as Jonquil, Daffodil, Earlycheer and Paperwhite. Treat water with a small drop of household bleach or chlorine to keep water clean.
6. Ethylene is a gas that causes flowers to detoriorate quickly. Ethylene can be found in ripening fruits, vegetables or dying flowers. Keep fresh flowers away from these items. Flowers that are sensitive to Ethylene are Alstromeria, Anemone, Bourvadia, Carnation, Celosia, Delphinium, Freesia, Iris, Lily, Lisianthus, Orchid, Rose, Snapdragon, Stock and Sweet Pea.
